Amsterdam and Brussels: two wonderful cities for cinema-going.
In the Silver Screen Cities Amsterdam & Brussels book, author David Kintore explores both cities by visiting those cities’ cinemas and neighbourhoods. In Amsterdam, cinemas visited include Kriterion, Cinecenter, EYE Film Institute, Pathé City, Studio K, The Movies, Filmtheater de Uitkijk, Café 16cc (now sadly closed), De Balie, Rialto, Het Ketelhuis, and the fabulous Pathé Tuschinski.
In Brussels, cinemas visited include Actor’s Studio, Cinéma Arenberg, Cinematek, Flagey Studio 5, Styx, Nova, Galeries, and Cinema Vendôme.
Between the sections on Amsterdam and Brussels there is a four-city interlude featuring chapters on visits to Filmhouse in Edinburgh, Broadway Cinematheque in Hong Kong, Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff, and Cinecube in Seoul.
Here are a few sample chapters to give a flavour of the Silver Screen Cities Amsterdam & Brussels book.
‘Surviving Life’ at Nova Cinema, Brussels
‘Nothing to Declare’ at Actor’s Studio, Brussels
‘Melancholia’ at Cinecenter, Amsterdam
‘Greetings from Tim Buckley’ at Cafe 16cc, Amsterdam
‘City Lights’ at Pathé Tuschinski, Amsterdam
‘Disputed Passage’ at Cinemathek, Brussels
Enjoy!
